Recovery Star helps service users shine

Cascade Care, the leading provider of community-based mental healthcare for adult men and women in need of high levels of support, is using an innovative tool to support service users in their journey towards recovery and rehabilitation.

Around a third of Cascade’s service users are currently taking part in a programme involving Recovery Star, a measuring tool recognised by the Department of Health.

With Recovery Star, service users take a hands-on role in goal setting and charting their progress in ten core areas, including managing mental health, addictive behaviour, living skills, self-esteem, work and relationships.

Vicky Hall, Chief Executive of Cascade Care, said: “Seeing clear evidence of progress and getting involved in the process motivates our service users and helps boost their skills and confidence.

“It’s a win-win situation, because Cascade and commissioners also benefit from Recovery Star. It enables us to monitor and improve our accelerated care programme, which reduces service users’ time with us while delivering the successful outcomes and value for money that commissioners look for.”

The company has also made places available for service users on introductory and “train the trainer” Recovery Star sessions, enabling them to become involved in the team delivering Cascade Care’s ongoing, in-house Recovery Star training.

Cascade Care provides community-based mental healthcare and rehabilitations to men and women aged 18-65 in London and the South East. Cascade specialises in working with a lead mental health diagnosis, whose condition may be made more complex by a forensic background, a learning disability or drug or alcohol misuse.
